More than 300 years ago (on the 80’s of the 17 th century) Abovyan’s ancestors migrated from Lazistan. Undergoing continuous oppressions and troubles from Caucasian highlinders, Abovyan’s ancestors were not able to stand it no more, and because of that they settled down in historical Kanaker, which had won the attention of authorities and religious leaders with its favorable climate conditions. Abovyan’s ancestors were noticeable figures in Ararat, venerable persons of great virtue, whose opinion was counted by the spiritual and secular prominent figures and foreigners.
Khachatur’s grandfather – Mister Apov was a rather educated person of his time, acquainted with holly book and secular writings. He built a house with earthen roof proper to his time where Khachaur Abovyan was born and passed nine years of his childhood.
Abovyan’s father was Mr. Abov’s elder son Avetik and his mother was Tagouhy: the daughter of Tadevosyan Hovhannes from Kanaker. They married in 1803. Avetik and Tagouhy had four children: Khachatur, Karapet, Mosi and Virap.
